Estonia was recognised in Italy with the International Pleiade Award for innovation and new technologies. The award was presented at a ceremony in the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament.
According to Estonian Ambassador to Italy Celia Kuningas-Saagpakk, Estonia as a digital and innovative country has attracted a lot of attention in Italy. “This notable recognition is a great honour for Estonia, and it also demonstrates that we have been very successful in introducing Estonia as a digital country in Italy.”
The Pleiade Award has been awarded since 1986 in 12 categories, however, this year, a decision was made to focus on only one area – innovation and new technologies. Previous winners include Mikhail Gorbachev (politician of the Soviet Union and Russia, and public figure), Mario Luzi (Italian poet), The Times (the largest daily newspaper of the United Kingdom), Giorgio Benvenuti (world boxing champion) and many other persons, agencies and organisations.
