Diplomatic relations between Estonia and San Marino were established on 15 October 2003. San Marino’s first ambassador to Estonia Silvia Berti presented her credentials to President Toomas Hendrik Ilves on 21 February 2008. The ambassador resides in San Marino.
Estonia’s first ambassador to San Marino, Andres Tomasberg, held the position from February 2009 to August 2010, Merike Kokajev from 2010-2014 and Celia Kuningas-Saagpakk from 2014-2020.
The current ambassador Paul Teesalu presented his credentials to Captains Regent of San Marino Alessandro Cardelli and Mirko Dolcini on 20 November 2020. The ambassador resides in Rome. Until 1 October 2023 the captains regent of San Marino are Adele Tonnini and Alessandro Scarano.
No high-level visits have taken place.
Economic relations between Estonia and San Marino are minimal. According to the data of Statistics Estonia, in 2021 San Marino was Estonia’s 156th export partner with a turnover of about 62 300 EUR. Among import partners San Marino was 99th with a turnover of 114 000 EUR. Communication devices make up 64.6% of Estonia’s export to San Marino, followed by computers with 35.4%.
